How much would you be prepared to pay for a jar of clean, mountain-fresh air?
Recently, in China, this question was answered when a local artist auctioned of a jar of air from France for 5,250 Yuan (which is approximately R8788,73 at today’s exchange rate) in order to drive a point home to the Chinese government about the state of air pollution in China.
Air pollution is not just a problem that China is facing, however. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently reported that it is now the world’s biggest environmental health risk with 7 million deaths per year. Dr Maria Neira, Director of WHO’s Department for Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health is quoted as saying: “The risks from air pollution are now far greater than previously thought or understood, particularly for heart disease and strokes. Few risks have a greater impact on global health today than air pollution; the evidence signals the need for concerted action to clean up the air we all breathe.”
Not all is lost though! One of the many things we can do is to plant more trees! Studies have shown that they are better at filtering the air in urban areas than we previously thought. We at Fax FX are committed to helping the environment in any way we can which is why we supply eco-friendly products such as fax to email, which keep our trees alive and doing their jobs, and reducing the overuse of paper humans are notorious for.
